Verses About Being a Good Steward

The Bible teaches us that God is not only redeeming his people, but also restoring the whole creation (Romans 8:18-23). As stewards of the earth, we have been entrusted with the sacred responsibility to care for it. The consequences of our actions are far-reaching and devastating. Climate change has severe impacts on our planet, including increased disease spread, asthma attacks, sea level rise, and flooding, just to name a few.

In the United States, climate change is causing harm to our environment, health, and economy. In developing countries, it exacerbates food and water insecurity, vector-borne diseases, and migrations, leading to conflicts and daily challenges for many people. The poorest of God's children in the world are disproportionately affected by these issues.

Climate change also accelerates desertification, pollution, and other damage to creation, resulting in a significant loss of biodiversity. This not only threatens our quality of life today but also that of future generations. As stewards of the earth, we must recognize that climate change is a threat multiplier that has been exacerbated by human activities.

Scripture teaches us that God created the earth as a good and sustainable place, full of feedback mechanisms and cycles designed to provide abundant physical life (Isaiah 24:4-6). However, through our sin, we have polluted and defiled it. Our uses of the earth must be designed to conserve and renew it rather than deplete or destroy it.

As Christians, we acknowledge creation care as an act of discipleship. We are called to work the earth and take care of it (Genesis 2:15), recognizing that God is the true owner of creation (Psalm 24:1). While there are natural factors beyond our control, we must take responsibility for our actions and recognize that our dominion over the earth is a sacred trust.

God gave us the care of his earth and its species from the beginning. Creation has always witnessed the majesty and presence of God (Romans 1:20), and as followers of Jesus, we are called to act responsibly to care for God's earth while reaffirming our worship only of the Creator, not the creation.

In conclusion, being a good steward of the earth is a critical aspect of our faith. We must recognize the devastating impacts of climate change and take action to conserve and renew the earth.
